Background
The CDM Foundation is dedicated to making
Corona del Mar Middle and High School “the best” secondary schools in the nation through support to academic,
college prep, athletic, physical plant and extracurricular programs. The CdM Foundation was formed in the
mid-90’s and has funded over $6,000,000 in programs benefitting CdM students since its founding.
2008-2009
Funding Initiatives
The CdM Foundation will spend approximately $800,000 during this school year. The initiatives
include five areas:
Counseling/Services:
The Foundation will fund an additional guidance counselor, a college program counselor, a school nurse and a counselor guidance
technician at an approximate cost of $271,000. This support provides a functional staff/student ratio for
counseling, a college prep support system commensurate with private and prep schools, and a physical/psychological support
system that benefits CdM students.
Core Academic: The Foundation will support a Science teaching
assistant (TA), Grading substitutes that allow teachers to conduct after school study sessions, Technology Lab and Administrative
Assistants with a budgeted cost of $77,000.
Grants: The Foundation will support community service, an Athletic trainer, College
Counselor stipend, after-school study clinics, College counseling and the College Planning Notebooks (with training sessions).
The budgeted expenditure is $106,000.
Other items: Physical plant (steam-cleaning school), special projects and G&
A are budgeted at $75,000 (note that G&A is $25K, or roughly 3% of budget).
Infrastructure: The Quad Phase II is $260,000, which will include replacing the
stage, including a cover over the stage and other quad improvements.
Historical
Perspective
State and district
funding provide a safe physical plant and qualified teachers and staff, yet budget limitations preclude adequate funding of
“soft programs” (technology, adequate counseling, nursing and college resources, improving physical structure
beyond code safety standards, etc.). The CdM Foundation has “filled the gap” to assure that
your child has world class resources and learning environment. Key improvements in recent years include
the Quad upgrade this past summer, a technology overhaul including new computer labs and resource center two years ago, ongoing
technology training for staff and teachers to create 21st Century education, and continual support for an administration that
can handle the load of 2,200 students.
2008-2009
Fundraising Goals
The CdM
Foundation needs your help. We have been successful supporting the school needs over the past decade.
Generous donors contributed almost $900,000 last year. Our goal is slightly less ambitious this
year—we are asking for $800,000. This works out to about $1 per day per student to support one of
the top high schools in the nation!
