In Spring 2008, the Foundation unveiled its first College Planning Guide made available to all CdM high school students. This helpful resource was developed by former Foundation Board member Kim Pawell with information from guidance counselor Kathy Hath and College Programs Coordinator Marianne Scott.

The Guide is updated on an annual basis and new inserts are provided to all 9th-12th grade students at registration. If a student did not pick up the update, you can download it here:

2013-14 CdM College Planning Guide

The purpose of the Guide is:

·         to help students plan for high school and maximize both high school and college opportunities

·         to provide resources for researching and identifying a targeted list of colleges that meet individual student needs

·         to develop personalized timelines for college testing and applying to colleges

·         to provide a method of collecting and organizing all information needed for the college application process as found in the “My Stuff” section

·         to provide guidelines and information needed to make the college search and application process an enjoyable, exploratory process, rather than one filled with confusion and anxiety

The goal in all of this is finding the right college match and to help each CdM student identify, apply and be accepted to a college that meets individual needs and wants.

College is a match to be made, not a prize to be won.  ~ Frank Sachs - Former President of the National Association of College Admissions Counseling.

There are a few things to keep in mind:

  • This is a 4-year planning guide. Each student will be issued one guide for four years so please keep it in a safe place.
  • This Guide is designed to provide information for both students and parents. We encourage parents to encourage their students to take the lead in managing the college planner. Students that can take individual responsibility for their academic and personal life in high school will be much better prepared for the college search and application process and in turn more prepared for the college experience.

REMEMBER: Marianne Scott and Kerstyn Battenberg also hold monthly College Chats at 8:30am the third Wednesday of each month, these sessions are open to all CDM parents, please check the Counseling Website for dates.
